MS. SMITH'S PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION

I believe that all stakeholders, which include teachers, parents, custodians, lunchroom attendants and support staff are committed to graduate the best of the best.  We live in a society where education is important and it is my belief that all students have the capability of learning.  Students come to school today and are influenced by culture, background and prior experiences.  As a teacher, it is my responsibility to encourage my students to learn and discover their abilities.  My goal as a Deparatment of Special Education teacher is to use a variety of instructional strategies to connect the curriculum to the students.
I do not see my job as challenging, even though my students are labeled with a disability. Motivating, reassuring, and encouraging students in the classroom is the challenge I take on in the classroom for every student.  My students are below level in Reading and Mathematics.  It is imperative that I plan, develop and execute lesson plans to meet their needs.  It is my belief that my students regardless of disability make gains in the classroom.  Some students require “hands on” activities while others require concrete assignments.  We have to remember that in order for learning to occur, students need a stable non-threatening atmosphere in which they can develop cognitively.  As a teacher, educating high schoolers, I have to be able to connect with students in order to inspire and drive them to broaden their horizons.
As a teacher, it is my responsibility to assist students and set goals level appropriately.  It is also my responsibility to set appropriate levels that give students confidence and motivation.  My teaching philosophy will provide students the learning environment that will enable them to receive the best teaching and learning experience.  In addition, I will strive to inspire my students to reach goals and peak their interest while encouraging them to continue to do their personal best and fulfill their dreams.  Moreover, I will always seek excellence in teaching in and out of the classroom.  My goal is to provide my students who are from disadvantaged backgrounds the necessary knowledge and direction that will prepare them for the society we live in.
